About This Product

The variable vane turbochargers used in diesels today to reduce turbo lag, emissions and increase power can also be used to slow you down. BD utilizes this technology by electronically closing off the turbine vanes which can create up to 130 retarding horsepower. This braking force will help to maintain your speeds on descents and curves, giving you better control of your truck and load. Love it!

Installed this on a 2014 f350. I pretty much leave it in 1 mode all the time. Love that I can travel on the highways and avoid using the brakes and instead I just have to either accelerate or unpress the acceleration pedal to slow down.

Only thing is now I think I should figure out how to wore up some flashing lights to turn on when my foot is off of the accelerator pedal, to indicate to anyone behind me that I may be slowing down, because again I hit the brakes way less often now.

Also is paired this with an upgraded turbo (forget which model but its based on the 2017 turbo) which gives more turbo-braking power than the stock 2014 smaller turbo.

Had this for years and it's fantastic while towing or for any regular highway or even city traffic as an extra brake to help offset the truck's weight and inertia and save a bit on the brake pads/rotors.

Hardly ever use the 2 mode as it seems a bit too aggressive; it basically downshifts 2 gears when you hit the brake pedal to jump up the rpms and increase turbo braking power drastically.

1 mode simply lets you use like normal and fully releasing the accelerator activates the turbo brake.

Also like the modded shifting behavior when downshifting to slow down and then accelerating again. I think I normally when you downshift to slow down (e.g. shift down from 6th to 4th while in Drive/automatic mode), and then accelerate, the transmission gear stays locked out of 5/6 as it was, but with this in 1 mode the locking clears when you accelerate again so it will shift up again to 5th/6th when it needs to.

Also (with normal non-towing traveling) like to keep this in mode 1 and tap the Tow mode to begin slowing down, as tow mode will automatically downshift sooner than non-tow mode, helping to increase the turbo braking power and assist braking.
