EXHAUST BRAKES

PART # 1030750
BrakeLoc - Automatic Transmission Ford 7.3L Power Stroke 1995-2003

1 Review

$530.95 USD

Make the Most of Your Power Stroke's exhaust backpressure valve! BD's BrakeLoc connects to the EBPV control wire, turning the factory valve into an electronically-controlled exhaust brake. Includes the BD AutoLoc to maintain lock-up when the exhaust brake is activated ensuring that 100% of the retarding force is being transferred in 3rd and 4th gears. Note that, because the EBPV is activated hydraulically, there is typically a 2-3 second delay between the time the valve is actuated and engine retarding occurs. While the BrakeLoc is an economical alternative to an exhaust brake, it is NOT intended as a substitute. For quicker, more effective braking, we recommend a BD exhaust brake system, which utilizes our Variable Orifice Technology, and won't stick like the stock EPB valve can.

FEATURES

  • Cost effective solution of engine retarding for towing with the automatic transmission on the Ford PowerStrokes
  • Commands the Exhaust Back Pressure (EBP) valve to activate as well as keeping the lock-up clutch of the torque converter to stay engaged to allow up to 100% of the retarding force to be transferred while in 3rd and 4th gear
  • Transmission oil temperatures will remain low because of little or no slippage occurring in the converter in these gears
  • For more efficient retarding use or medium to heavy loads use BD Exhaust Brake 2033143, 2023144, 1037143 or 1027144

2002 7.3 Powerstroke Brakeloc

My initial experience with the Brakeloc installed on my truck it has been great. The instructions that came with the kit were spot on. The estimated install time is probably correct but I took extra time to wrap my wiring in loom and route it for a clean install. I also wired it to my own rocker switch and not the one supplied in the kit. I've only pulled 4000lbs with it and with the Brakeloc on it held 35mph on a 7-8% grade. I can't wait to see what it'll do with our 7000lbs camper through the mountains. With the Brakeloc on going through town empty it'll put a smile on your face. Definitely a feature I'll add to any 7.3 I get in the future even if just for the cool factor.
